When is it most important to see a dentist?

Most dental research shows that visiting the dentist every 3-6 months can be incredibly beneficial for your overall health. While there are some people who have great oral health and may only need to see the dentist every 6 months, there are quite a few reasons why going every 3 months can do big things for your body.

There is a large group of people that are at high risk for dental disease and may not even realize it, and the only way to find out is to visit your dentist. These people can include:

  • Diabetics
  • Pregnant women
  • Smokers
  • People who currently have a gum disease (that can only be diagnosed by a dentist)
  • People who have weak or lessened immune systems, such as people with autoimmune disease
  • People who are prone to cavities or have poor oral hygiene at home

The schedule for everyone is different. An adult will go to the dentist much less than a child. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that a child go to the dentist by age 1 or within six months after the first tooth erupts. Primary teeth typically begin growing in around 6 months of age. People are at an even higher risk for oral issues and discomfort with increased stress! Make it a priority to see your dentist every three months, prevention and early detection are the easiest and safest ways to fight disease. Make sure you are taking care of your teeth, they are the only ones you get!
